Do I Need Antibiotics After a Root Canal?

Not everyone does.

A root canal removes the source of infection inside the tooth, so antibiotics aren’t routinely needed. They may be recommended if the infection has spread beyond the tooth, there’s significant swelling, or certain medical conditions are present.

If antibiotics are prescribed, it’s important to take them exactly as directed and finish the entire course unless instructed otherwise.

We’ll explain whether antibiotics are appropriate for your specific situation and why.
