This is something patients often worry about, but sometimes it’s simply part of removing a damaged tooth safely.
Teeth that are heavily decayed, have large fillings, or are brittle may break into smaller pieces during the extraction. When that happens, we carefully remove each section while protecting the surrounding bone and gums.
Breaking the tooth during the procedure doesn’t necessarily mean something has gone wrong. In many cases, it’s actually the safest and most conservative way to remove the tooth.
We’ll explain what we’re doing throughout the procedure so you know what to expect.
