The word “surgical” can sound intimidating, but it simply means the tooth requires additional steps to remove safely.
A surgical extraction may be recommended if the tooth has broken below the gumline, has curved or unusually shaped roots, hasn’t fully erupted, or is difficult to access. In some cases, a small amount of bone may need to be removed or the tooth may need to be sectioned into smaller pieces so it can be removed more gently.
Our goal is always to use the safest and most conservative approach possible. We’ll explain why a surgical extraction is recommended and answer any questions before your procedure begins.
