Meet Meet Dr. Ami Tailor
“Sometimes the best dentistry isn’t about replacing a tooth. It’s about saving the one you already have.”
That’s a philosophy Dr. Ami Tailor carries with her every day.
She believes one of the most rewarding parts of dentistry is helping patients keep their natural teeth whenever possible. While dentistry offers incredible solutions to replace missing teeth, she knows that preserving what nature gave us is often the best place to begin.
For Dr. Tailor, every treatment starts with listening. She understands that every patient has a different story, different concerns, and different goals. Before recommending treatment, she takes time to understand what matters most to each person so they can make informed decisions together.
Long before becoming a dentist, Dr. Tailor’s life taught her the importance of perseverance, patience, and compassion. She was born in India before moving to the United States in 2004. Arriving in a new country with limited English wasn’t always easy, but it taught her how meaningful kindness, patience, and clear communication can be when someone feels uncertain or out of place. Those experiences continue to shape the way she cares for patients today.
Her interest in dentistry was strengthened after watching a close family member recover from a traumatic accident that required extensive dental treatment. Seeing how a restored smile could rebuild confidence and improve someone’s quality of life showed her that dentistry could change much more than teeth; it could change lives.
Before entering dental school, Dr. Tailor earned a Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Science from Rutgers University and worked as a Blood Bank Technologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital. That experience strengthened her attention to detail and reinforced the importance of precision, accuracy, and teamwork, qualities she continues to bring into every procedure she performs.
She later earned master’s degrees in Pharmacology and Oral Biology before completing her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree at Midwestern University. Today, she continues expanding her knowledge through advanced education in restorative dentistry, endodontics, clear aligner therapy, digital dentistry, and dental implants because she believes dentistry is a profession that never stops evolving.
One area of dentistry that Dr. Tailor especially enjoys is endodontics, commonly known as root canal therapy. While many people hear the words “root canal” and immediately feel nervous, she sees something different. She sees an opportunity to relieve pain, eliminate infection, and preserve a natural tooth that might otherwise be lost. The precision and problem-solving involved make each case unique, and she finds it incredibly rewarding to help patients keep their own healthy smiles for years to come.
Patients often describe Dr. Tailor as calm and thoughtful. She considers herself more of a listener than a talker and believes some of the best patient care begins by simply allowing people to share their concerns. Whether someone feels anxious about treatment or has been avoiding the dentist for years, she wants every patient to know they will never be judged. Instead, they’ll be met with understanding, honest conversations, and a plan created together.
As the newest doctor to join the Dental Oasis of Clayton team, Dr. Tailor has enjoyed becoming part of a practice that shares her commitment to treating people like family. She appreciates working alongside a team that values collaboration, continuing education, and building lasting relationships with patients.
Outside the office, Dr. Tailor enjoys spending time with her husband and two young children, exploring new coffee shops, reading, taking walks, traveling to the mountains, and enjoying Thai food with her family. She also speaks English, Gujarati, and Hindi, reflecting the diverse experiences that have shaped both her life and her approach to caring for others.
At the end of every appointment, Dr. Tailor hopes her patients leave feeling better than when they arrived. Not just because their teeth are healthier, but because they felt listened to, understood, and cared for.
Because for Dr. Tailor, dentistry has always been about more than fixing teeth.
It’s about helping people preserve their smiles and their confidence for years to come.
