Dr. William Ferrell

Dr. William Ferrell

Meet Dr. William Ferrell, DMD

Yes, he hears it all the time.

No, he’s not that Will Ferrell.

Sharing a name with a famous comedian has become a great conversation starter over the years,
and Dr. William Ferrell is always happy to laugh along with patients before getting down to the
serious business of caring for their smiles.

While many dentists say they always knew this was the career they wanted, Dr. Ferrell’s journey
into dentistry took a different path.

After graduating from North Carolina State University at 35 years old, he and his wife were
raising their four-month-old baby, and he was focused on building a future for his growing
family. One afternoon, while scrolling through Facebook, he came across a post thanking a
dentist for coming into the office on his day off to help someone in pain.

It was a simple post.

But it made him stop and think.

For the first time, he saw dentistry as more than just a profession. It was a career that offered the
opportunity to provide for his family while making a meaningful difference in other people's
lives. The more he learned, the more convinced he became that he had found exactly where he
belonged.

Today, looking back, it’s amazing to think that one ordinary Facebook post helped shape the rest
of his life.

Dr. Ferrell earned his Bachelor of Science in Biology from North Carolina State University,
graduating magna cum laude, before receiving his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from the
East Carolina University School of Dental Medicine. While at ECU, he served as Community
Service Chair for his graduating class, reflecting a commitment to serving others that continues
to guide him today.

One philosophy has remained constant throughout his career:
Treat every patient the way you would want your own family treated.

That belief influences every interaction, whether a patient is visiting for a routine dental exam, a
filling, a dental crown, restorative dentistry, dentures, tooth replacement, or treatment to relieve
dental pain.

Dr. Ferrell believes the best dentistry begins with earning a patient’s trust.

He takes time to listen before recommending treatment, making sure patients understand their
options and feel comfortable asking questions. He knows that for many people, a trip to the
dentist can be stressful, and he believes clear communication, honesty, and compassion can make
all the difference.

Patients often describe Dr. Ferrell as calm, reassuring, and easy to talk to. Many appreciate how
he explains procedures in a way that’s easy to understand and keeps them informed throughout
their visit. His goal is simple: he wants every patient to leave feeling cared for, respected, and
more comfortable than when they arrived.

Having experienced dental anxiety himself, Dr. Ferrell understands those feelings firsthand.
That’s one of the reasons he works hard to create a judgment-free environment where patients
can move at a comfortable pace and feel confident that their concerns are being heard.
Dr. Ferrell especially enjoys restorative dentistry because it allows him to combine science,
artistry, and problem-solving to improve both oral health and confidence. Whether he's repairing
a damaged tooth, restoring a smile with crowns or bridges, replacing missing teeth, or helping
someone chew comfortably again, he believes the smallest details often make the biggest
difference. His goal is to provide dentistry that looks natural, functions beautifully, and lasts for
years to come.

For Dr. Ferrell, the most rewarding part of dentistry isn’t just restoring teeth.

It’s restoring confidence.

It’s seeing a nervous patient finally relax.

It’s helping someone smile without covering their mouth.

It’s hearing a patient say, “That wasn’t nearly as bad as I expected.”

Those moments remind him why he chose this profession.

Giving back has always been an important part of Dr. Ferrell’s life. He has volunteered with the
Salvation Army, North Carolina Missions of Mercy, Give Kids a Smile, and the Animal
Protection Society, believing everyone deserves compassionate care whenever possible.

Dr. Ferrell has proudly called the Raleigh area home since 2011. Outside the office, he enjoys
spending time with his wife, their four children, and their family dogs. Whether he’s exploring
the outdoors, listening to records from his vinyl collection, or enjoying the occasional craft beer
with friends, he values time spent with the people he loves most.

Although his journey into dentistry began unexpectedly, he can’t imagine doing anything else.

Every day, he has the opportunity to solve problems, relieve pain, restore smiles, and build
lasting relationships with the people he serves.

For Dr. Ferrell, dentistry has never simply been about treating teeth.
It’s about treating people.

And that’s exactly what you can expect when you visit Dental Oasis of Clayton.
