Wisdom tooth pain can have several causes. The tooth may be coming in, partially erupted, infected, decayed, or pressing against the tooth in front of it.
Sometimes the gum tissue around a wisdom tooth becomes inflamed because food and bacteria collect under the flap of gum covering the tooth.
The best way to determine the cause is with an examination and X-rays. Once we know what’s causing your pain, we’ll explain your treatment options and recommend what’s best for your long-term oral health.
