How Do I Know If My Tooth Is Infected?

Some tooth infections cause severe pain, while others cause very little discomfort. Common signs include lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling in the gums or face, a bad taste in your mouth, or a small pimple-like bump on the gums.

The only way to know for certain is with a dental exam and, in many cases, an X-ray.

If you notice swelling, fever, or difficulty swallowing, contact a dentist as soon as possible. These symptoms shouldn’t be ignored.
