Not always.
Antibiotics can help when an infection has spread or there’s significant swelling, but they usually don’t fix the source of the problem. If the infection started inside the tooth, the tooth itself often still needs treatment, such as a root canal or an extraction.
Taking antibiotics alone may temporarily reduce symptoms, but the infection can return if the underlying cause isn’t treated.
We’ll evaluate your tooth and recommend whether antibiotics are appropriate as part of your treatment.
