My Toothache Stopped Hurting. Is That Good?

It can be—but not always.

Sometimes the irritation settles down temporarily. Other times, the nerve inside the tooth becomes severely damaged, causing the pain to decrease even though the infection continues to spread.

That’s why we don’t recommend assuming the problem has gone away simply because the pain has stopped.

If you’ve had a toothache that suddenly disappeared without treatment, it’s still worth having the tooth evaluated.
