My Wisdom Tooth Hurts. What Should I Do?

Wisdom teeth can become painful for several reasons. They may be coming in normally, partially erupted, infected, decayed, or pushing against the tooth in front of them.

Rinsing with warm salt water may provide temporary relief if the surrounding gum tissue is irritated, but it won’t treat the underlying problem.

If the pain continues, you notice swelling, or it’s becoming difficult to open your mouth, schedule an appointment so we can determine whether your wisdom tooth needs treatment or removal.
