Taking care of your teeth is a very important part of your health. If good dental hygiene is not consistently practiced, you are likely to have some dental problems. Here are a few common dental problems, along with how you can avoid them as much as possible.
- Incorrectly brushing your teeth (whether it’s the frequency of your brushing or the technique you are using) can lead to tooth decay. When this is left untreated, cavities are formed and require treatment. To prevent tooth decay and cavities, make sure you are brushing at least twice a day for a full two minutes. Flossing and a daily fluoride rinse are always helpful in protecting your teeth from further dental problems.
- Gum Disease. There are two different types of gum disease: gingivitis and periodontitis. Both diseases are caused by plaque infecting the gums, but gingivitis is a milder form that can be reversed with good hygiene practices. Removing plaque and bacteria is the key to preventing gum disease, so brushing after meals and flossing daily is encouraged.
- Mouth Sores. Cold sores and canker sores are the most common types of mouth sores, and most people have experienced one or both at some point in their lives. There are many reasons for mouth sores, including lack of vitamins, stress, hormone changes, or other illnesses. You can prevent mouth sores by reducing stress, taking vitamins, and using care when chewing food.
